The Key to a Better Life – Quality Education
Education is considered to be the key to personal success, prosperity of communities and nations. People gain knowledge, skills and values to live their lives with purpose and cope with various problems. Quality Education is Sustainable Development Goal No 4 (SDG 4), which includes providing people with inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all. Education must not be focused only on studying and achievements, but should foster thinking, creativity, communication and solving of different problems. Equal accessibility is the primary component of quality education. However, millions of children and youth are deprived of equal access to education due to poverty, absence of infrastructure, gender discrimination, lack of educational materials and resources, and inadequate use of technology. Such barriers prevent individuals from gaining education necessary for building a better future. Providing accessible and affordable education is necessary for reduction of social and economic inequalities. The role of teachers in quality education is also very important. A great teacher is not only the one who imparts knowledge. He or she should inspire students to be curious, creative and think independently. Teachers should receive appropriate training, materials and support for the creation of engaging environment. Nowadays there are modern methods of teaching, including practical work, discussions, digital learning and project-based learning. Modern technologies also play an important role in the education process. Digital classes, online courses, educational applications and other virtual materials provide students with access to additional information apart from textbooks. However, digital divide is still an issue nowadays. Poorer students do not have access to smartphones, computers and Internet. Therefore, technologies should be implemented in such a way that no one could be deprived of education. Quality education implies the creation of an inclusive atmosphere where everyone would feel comfortable and accepted. Education should be available regardless of gender, disability, economic status, native language or other social barriers. School and college should foster equality, mutual respect, mental well-being and safe learning environment. Education should prepare the young generation not only for working, but also for being responsible citizens. Skill-based education is as important as any other kind of education in the modern dynamically developing world. Young people should acquire various skills like communication, financial literacy, digital literacy, entrepreneurship, teamwork, solving problems and others. It will help them to become more confident and well-prepared for higher education, employment and entrepreneurship. Cooperation is crucial in providing the young generation with quality education. Investment in schools, training of teachers, educational technologies, grants and vocational programmes should be made. Also, community involvement can guarantee education for the disadvantaged groups. Conclusion Quality education is much more than going to school or getting a degree. It is the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values and opportunities, which allow people to live a meaningful and successful life. It is the basis of achievement of various other Sustainable Development Goals, since educated people can contribute to healthier communities, stronger economy, gender equality and sustainable development. Provision of quality and inclusive education for everyone will allow us to build knowledgeable, skilled, equal and sustainable society for future generations.
